2024 has arrived, and the Euros are approaching. As expected, Europe's best and brightest are already preparing. However, some teams feel they have more to prove. England is one of the favorites, but after a recent run of heartbreaking results at international competitions, there's a sense that 2024 could be England's year.

Looking at this squad, it could be true. England has had a disappointing record in international competitions, despite being one of the proudest and most feared nations. The last two tournaments were agonizingly close to being their time once again, but it must be only a matter of time before England gets the job done right. Despite these recent disappointments, they had some solid outings in the 2018 World Cup, where the English team made it all the way to the semi-finals.

England made it to the final of the 2020 Euros, but lost agonizingly to Croatia, who then lost to eventual winners France. Despite being relatively underrated, England pulled off a solid performance to reach the final. However, it can be argued that this was the most disappointing of their losses. The team beat good teams such as Germany in the runner. Luke Shaw scored early, and Jordan Pickford eventually saved two Italian penalties. However, it wasn't enough to win the final. However, that is all history now. England participated in the 2022 World Cup and had a decent performance before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

England played against the best team in the world at the time but lost due to a hurricane penalty miss. This is a rare occurrence. With the Euros less than 6 months away, preparations are already underway. Gareth Southgate and his team will be looking to adjust the squad for the next competition. As with every other event, there is a sense that this could be the one for England. Why, you might ask? Well, let's start with a few reasons.

Bayo Saka

At the last Euros in 2020 or 2021, the English squad's inexperience seemed to be a major factor in their defeat during the penalty shootout in the final. Three young players who had never been to international competitions before, let alone played on such a grand stage, stepped up. Naturally, the pressure built, and the players understandably struggled. The positive aspect is that these players have shown the world that they have the mentality to become top players by responding well to setbacks. However, Rashford and especially Sancho have not found much form since this tough moment in their careers. Rashford is currently struggling. It is important to keep sentences short and straightforward, use active voice, present information in a logical order, use verb phrases instead of noun phrases, aim for standard sentence structure, and ensure grammatical correctness.

Additionally, use simple vocabulary and accessible language that are easy to understand for a broad audience. It is crucial to avoid adding new content to the text. Sancho is now training with the reserves and is likely to leave the club in January after falling out with his manager.

Meanwhile, Sacka bounced back like a spring, putting the failure behind him and showing the world that he has the mental resilience to become a consistent key player for the club. In the coming years, including 2024, England and Country will face tough competition. However, Bukayo Saka is currently one of the best wingers in the Premier League and the world. He is helping Arsenal in their pursuit of the title this season, making him a real threat to any defense. His scoring and creating abilities make him a valuable asset for England in the upcoming year.

Jordan Pickford

Once again, Jordan Pickford is proving his haters wrong. His form of Everton this season has been immense, helping to turn Everton's controversial point deduction into an excuse for the team to perform excellently. He has kept a clean sheet after another. Fans and pundits have always questioned Pickford's goalkeeping abilities, despite his excellent performances for England. It's important for a successful team to have leaders all over the pitch, and Jordan certainly provides that for the defense. He is constantly talking or shouting to his defense, making him a stalwart in goal this year.

Harry MaGuire

Since joining Manchester United in August 2019, Harry McGuire has faced ridicule due to a few rough patches. He was stripped of the captain's armband and benched for many games in the last couple of seasons. However, he has turned it around this season and has become one of United's best players. He even won a Premier League Player of the Month award. Maguire has always been a talented player. Despite being criticized for his susceptibility to making mistakes at the back, Harry Maguire has always been a rock in defence of England. He should be full of confidence for the Euros, which may even elevate his England performances to a new level. Do not be surprised if Maguire is one of England's best performers and one of the players of the tournament at the Euros in 2024.

Harry Kane

The undisputed leader of this England squad, Kane has continued to be Mr Dependable for the Three Lions time and time again. Heading into this Euros, Southgate will be relying on Kane's ability to score many goals. Fortunately, Kane is in the right form to do just that. There was some controversy surrounding Kane's move to Munich. Since moving to Germany, he has been unstoppable. He is not only the Bundesliga's highest goal scorer but also the odds-on favourite to top the European Golden Boot rankings for the 2023-24 season. His form has been invaluable as the Bavarians aim to strengthen their hold on the Bundesliga and return to the top.

With Kane in blistering form, England will definitely be looking to capitalize on it to make a deep run in the Euros this year. To partner with Kane, England will need to find a suitable replacement as he will be 33 by the time the next World Cup comes around in 2026. This may suggest that this could be his last international tournament at his peak.

This may give him extra motivation to not only lift himself but also lift those around him to reach international glory. Before we discuss the two most important reasons for England's success, feel free to hit the like and subscribe buttons to make sure you don't miss all the football content we are coming your way.

Declan Rice

Next up is Declan Rice, an underrated player in the England squad. He recently made a big money move to Arsenal and has been an absolute monster for the Gunners. Not all midfielders have the energy and IQ to sit in front of the defences and competently intercept and tackle teams' attacking players for 90 minutes at a time. One of the most important benefits of Rice is that he can do this alone.

This fact could not only give the defence large amounts of protection, but it also allows the other midfielders to push forward and create more chances. Rice provides stability and allows England's other midfielders to push up the pitch, score goals, and provide for the forwards. He also has the ability to score goals himself, as he has expressed a desire to do so. Rice has started to fulfill this desire by scoring vital goals for Arsenal at crucial times. This makes him a valuable player for England at both ends of the pitch.

Jude Bellingham

Finally, we have the man himself, Jude Bellingham. I cannot stress enough how impressive this 20-year-old is. He plays with the composure and poise of a seasoned professional. Bellingham is a once-in-a-generation talent, and he proved it by being arguably England's best player at the 2022 World Cup. He created links between the midfield and the attack and regularly dominated the holding midfielder position against established opponents.

Since his move to Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham has blossomed into one of the best players on the planet. He is one of the top scorers in the Spanish Top Flight, and has established himself as Real Madrid's star man. With the stability of Rice behind him, he could have even more freedom to attack and create for his England teammates. A lot will be resting on Bellingham's shoulders. If England are to make a deeper run in the competition or even have a chance to win, much of that will rely on their performance. Based on what we've seen so far, the team has no issues with living up to the spotlight.

The England football team is primed for a win this year because the squad is not only of immense quality right now but is also starting to reach maturity. This starts with a defense that will be the backbone of England's success. The defense includes players such as Pford, Stones, Maguire, KY Walker, and Luke Shaw. The captain, Harry Kane, and other experienced players in their 30s will be complemented by younger players like Jude Bellingham (who will turn 21 during the tournament), Sacka (22), Rice (25), and Bowden (24).

This combination of maturity and energy may provide the perfect balance. It is highly likely that England will be one of the teams to watch out for in the Euros. Share your thoughts in the comments and don't forget to like and subscribe. Until next time!
