Ukraine secures Euro-2024 spot

The final 24-nation roster for Euro 2024 was announced on Tuesday. Three qualifying playoffs will give the competition, which begins in Germany on June 14, a greater Eastern European character.

Ukraine defeated Iceland 2-1 thanks to a sweeping low shot from Mykhailo Mudryk in the 84th minute, marking the second consecutive postseason late comeback triumph for a club from the war-torn nation.

Because international matches cannot be held in Kyiv due to security concerns during the conflict with Russia—whose squad has been barred by UEFA from attempting to qualify—the Ukraine national team's "home" game was held in neutral Poland.

Georgia earns spot on EURO for the first time

Georgia, who defeated Greece 4-2 in a penalty shootout, will play in their first major tournament at Euro 2024 with star forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. It had been a boisterous 0-0 stalemate in Tbilisi, one marked by tension and acrimony.

Nika Kvekveskiri, a substitute, scored the game-winning penalty, sending his flawless effort low into the corner to give Georgia a 4-2 victory.

Thousands of Georgia fans poured onto the pitch as part of wild celebrations that saw 50,000 spectators at the national stadium. Some even scaled the goalposts to take a seat on the crossbar.

Georgian athletes previously won a European championship as members of the Soviet Union team that took home the first trophy in 1960.

Currently, the sovereign nation has merited the opportunity to write its own football history in Germany.

Poland and Robert Lewandowski through to Euro 2024

Poland, however, was the last team to secure a trip to Germany after they defeated Wales 5–4 in a spot shootout in Cardiff following a 0-0 draw.

After Poland's captain Robert Lewandowski converted the first penalty kick of the shootout, he could not stand by and watch the event as Dan James's last-minute chance was saved by goalie Wojciech Szczesny.

"It's significant because, had we lost the game, I probably would have ended my international career tonight", Szczesny remarked.

Since 2008, when star forward Robert Lewandowski made his debut for his country, Poland has participated in every Euro tournament; in 2012, they co-hosted the tournament with Ukraine.

Poland will face France, the Netherlands, and Austria in a challenging Group D.

Group F comprises Slovakia, Belgium, and Romania, including Ukraine.

Georgia will play Portugal, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Cristiano Ronaldo in Group F.

From June 14 until July 14, ten German towns will host Euro 2024.
